AeroPerch is building the ground infrastructure that autonomous drone fleets need to operate at scale. Today most drones fly short missions and return to where they started, because there is nowhere along the way to recharge or offload data. Our field-deployed nodes give drones a place to land, charge wirelessly, exchange data and keep flying, turning one-off flights into continuous operations. Our first customers are in energy and critical infrastructure, with agriculture, public safety and defense to follow.
About the team
We are a small, early team with backgrounds in defense, aerospace and technology. The hardware team owns the node end to end: the wireless charging system, power electronics, enclosure and field integration. We move quickly from simulation to bench to field, and every engineer works hands-on across disciplines.
About the job
We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to design how our nodes are powered at remote sites with no grid connection. You will combine batteries, solar, small wind and backup generators into a power system that keeps charging drones through outages and bad weather, at a cost that works for rural customers.
What you'll do
- Design the node power system: battery storage, grid input and off-grid sources including solar, small wind and generators
- Select and integrate batteries, battery management systems, charge controllers, inverters and transfer switching
- Size power systems from site energy needs and drone traffic
- Develop control logic for source switching, generator start and stop, and low-power standby, working with firmware and software engineers
- Build and test power systems at the bench and in the field across temperature and weather
- Write specifications and installation requirements for each power configuration
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of experience with battery energy storage, solar or off-grid power systems
- Battery system design, including lithium-ion battery management and safety
- Experience integrating solar charge controllers, inverters and generators
- Hands-on build and test experience
- Familiarity with NEC requirements and UL standards for energy storage and solar
- U.S. Person status is required, as this position requires access to export-controlled information
Preferred qualifications
- Remote site, telecom tower, microgrid or residential energy storage product experience
- DC-DC converter design
- Power system modeling tools (HOMER, PVsyst or similar)
- Cold-weather operation and outdoor thermal design
- Remote monitoring and control of power assets
