Senior Software Engineer, Fleet Platform

  • Full-time
  • U.S. Person required
Apply for this role

AeroPerch is building the ground infrastructure that autonomous drone fleets need to operate at scale. Today most drones fly short missions and return to where they started, because there is nowhere along the way to recharge or offload data. Our field-deployed nodes give drones a place to land, charge wirelessly, exchange data and keep flying, turning one-off flights into continuous operations. Our first customers are in energy and critical infrastructure, with agriculture, public safety and defense to follow.

About the team

We are a small, early team with backgrounds in defense, aerospace and technology. The software team builds the platform that coordinates our nodes and the drones that use them, across many drone types and operators. We integrate proven tools where they fit and build what does not exist yet.

About the job

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the core of our fleet platform. You will design the services for scheduling, tracking and data exchange that tie nodes, drones and operators together, and set the engineering foundation the rest of the software team builds on.

What you'll do

  • Design and build backend services for flight scheduling, node reservations and drone tracking across the network
  • Build APIs and integrations with drone makers, autopilots, third-party platforms and operator tools
  • Build services that communicate with nodes in the field, including telemetry, configuration and secure software updates
  • Decide when to integrate existing tools and when to build our own
  • Set engineering practices for architecture, testing, deployment and monitoring
  • Help hire and grow the software team

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience building backend or distributed systems
  • Proficient in one or more of Python, Go, Rust, C++, Java or TypeScript
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure), databases and message queues
  • Demonstrated experience designing APIs and integrating third-party systems
  • Experience writing software that works with connected devices or field hardware
  • U.S. Person status is required, as this position requires access to export-controlled information

Preferred qualifications

  • Drones, robotics, autonomy or fleet telematics
  • Defense command-and-control or integration platforms
  • MAVLink, ROS or geospatial data
  • IoT device management and over-the-air updates
  • Security for connected devices
  • Early engineer at a startup
