AeroPerch is building the ground infrastructure that autonomous drone fleets need to operate at scale. Today most drones fly short missions and return to where they started, because there is nowhere along the way to recharge or offload data. Our field-deployed nodes give drones a place to land, charge wirelessly, exchange data and keep flying, turning one-off flights into continuous operations. Our first customers are in energy and critical infrastructure, with agriculture, public safety and defense to follow.
About the team
We are a small, early team with backgrounds in defense, aerospace and technology. The hardware team owns the node end to end: the wireless charging system, power electronics, enclosure and field integration. We move quickly from simulation to bench to field, and every engineer works hands-on across disciplines.
About the job
We are looking for an engineer to design and optimize the coils and magnetic structures that transfer power to our drones. You will own the electromagnetic design from simulation through tested hardware, with a focus on a receiver that is small, light and fits many different drones.
What you'll do
- Design transmitter and receiver coils, magnetic cores and shielding for wireless charging
- Build electromagnetic models to predict coupling, efficiency, losses and field levels across alignment and gap conditions
- Design compensation networks and work with power electronics engineers to match the coils to the converter
- Build and test prototype coils, and correlate measurements with simulation
- Develop receiver designs that are compact, lightweight and adaptable to different drones and payloads
- Assess and reduce stray fields for safety and EMC compliance
- Develop in-house coil winding and fabrication methods
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in magnetics, wireless power or electromagnetic design
- Proficient with electromagnetic simulation (Ansys Maxwell, COMSOL or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of inductive coupling, resonance and magnetic materials (ferrite, Litz wire)
- Lab experience with impedance analyzers, LCR meters and field probes
- U.S. Person status is required, as this position requires access to export-controlled information
Preferred qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in power electronics or electromagnetics
- Wireless charging product experience (EV, consumer, industrial or robotics)
- Knowledge of human exposure limits and EMC standards for wireless power
- Design for manufacturing of magnetic components
- Python or MATLAB for parametric design studies
